A missing rear sight elevator is a common problem with older rimfire rifles. In this GunTec presentation Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, demonstrates the process for making a replacement rear sight elevator from scrap metal. He starts by applying some layout dye to the scrap metal and using a template made from another elevator he scribes the outline of the part. The major pieces of excess metal are cut off using a hacksaw with the metal held in a vise. Then the part is shaped using a variety of files. After the profile of the part is complete, the elevator is thinned until it fits perfectly in the rear sight. This is a simple fix to a common problem.
